LONDON VIOLIN STORE - EST. in 1982
Take advantage of the abundant knowledge and restoration expertise of its managing directors Tom Neitzert and Gary Bridgewood and their restorers.
Full estimates are provided for both time and cost. Our skilled luthiers and consultants are available by appointment. Our shop and workshops are open 6 days a week and do not close for lunch.
Our repairers have trained at the leading violin schools from around the world including Cremona, Newark and West Dean and bring a wealth of experience that is further enhanced by the experience and depth of knowledge that the directors Tom and Gary bring, both to modern set up violins as well as baroque and classical period instruments.
Our focus is on minimal intervention and maintenance of original material wherever possible thereby preserving the integrity and value of your precious instrument using discreet, conservative, and refined repair methods.
Day-to-day minor repairs and set-ups e.g., shooting fingerboards, new bridge, gluing, etc, are usually completed within a week, URGENT procedures are conducted the same day.
If needed, we can lend you an instrument while yours is being repaired.

For sound adjustments, our commitment is to explore all available options with consideration for the characteristics of each instrument as well as the exact demands of the player. All our work is conducted in a measured and attentive manner to achieve the optimum sound for each instrument.
Tonal issues that are common are a lack of clarity, uneven or poor tone balance across the register, slow response, limited dynamic range, or audible buzzing.
Often ‘wolf tones’ may be present and we can help you balance these out or shift them to less problematic areas.
We will keep detailed notes on your current configuration, before and after any adjustments.

If you are considering converting your existing instrument to a baroque, transitional, or classical period, we are the experts.
Conversions can be done in stages and kept quite simple e.g., only changing the bridge, tailpiece, and strings, or can be a complete conversion e.g., new neck, fingerboard, pegs, tailpiece, bridge, and occasionally bass bar.
We work in a completely sympathetic way collaborating closely with you to determine and realize your musical ambition. We aim to maintain your instrument’s current sound and typically enhance and improve it.
Amongst many fine violins that we have converted are those by Grancino, Urquhart, and Amati.
We always have a wide selection of both baroque and classical period violins, violas, cellos, and bows for sale.

We carry out all repairs including fitting new hair to straightening, re-cambering, bushing the adjuster hole, realigning the screw, fitting a new face, replacement pieces, repairs to ivory or tortoiseshell, etc.
If needed, we can lend you a bow while yours is being rehaired or repaired. If you are unable to visit the shop we offer a postal service for bow rehairs and bow repairs.

The last time I went to Bridgewood & Neitzert, it was to get a full service for my cello. When it came back from Gary's workshop after three weeks' tlc, I was bowled over by the difference. Not only is the action easier and the tone cleaner, the whole instrument seems way more responsive: I just need to tickle it with the bow and this lovely sound grows out from it. I'm quite overcome by the difference. I live on the other side of London, but I won't take my cello to anyone else because I know with Gary I'll get an impeccable service.
Tim Bowen
Expert, reliable, and personal. More of a conversation, an ongoing relationship than a shopping experience. For a professional musician, to know that wherever you are in the world Bridegwood & Neitzert know exactly your preference for strings, when you last had your bow repaired, and so on and can send what you need is gold dust as support.
Audrey Riley
Trustworthy and efficient, I have used this shop for decades. At first for musical accessories and bow re-hairing, then for a major repair on my old bass. They were fantastic! Dealt with the insurance, did the repair to a high standard, and lent me a bass to use while mine was out of action.
Always recommend them. Oh, and they gave me an old bow and fixed up our busted (special) school violin for free, so generous too.
